| Bacterial Vaginosis (BV) is the name of a condition in women where the normal balance of bacteria in the vagina is disrupted and replaced by an overgrowth of certain bacteria. It is sometimes accompanied by discharge, odor, pain, itching, or burning. | Abnormal white or gray vaginal discharge with an unpleasant odor; burning during urination or itching around the outside of the vagina, or both. Some women have no symptoms at all. | Visual exam and swab | Antibiotics | Can increase a woman's susceptibility to HIV and other STDs, such as Chlamydia and gonorrhea; pelvic inflammatory disease (PID) following surgical procedures such as a hysterectomy or an abortion. | Herpes: "virus" |

Approximately 1% of all individuals who have been infected with HPV and 7% of those with current HPV infection have genital warts. | 30 or more days | Visual examination | Liquid nitrogen, podophyllin tincture or surgical removal. HPV infection is not curable, although most HPV infections resolve spontaneously. Even if warts do resolve, infection may remain, and can still be passed on to a future sexual partner. In addition, warts frequently recur in the months following symptoms. | Highly contagious; can spread enough to block vaginal and rectal openings. |
