Can I choose my baby's parents?

  • The attorney/agency generally provides profiles of adoptive couples; you can pick a profile and meet the couple (usually) before deciding.
  • If you do not want to know the couple, the attorney/agency will choose the couple for you.
  • Meetings and contacts with the adoptive couple are generally arranged through the attorney/agency. However, this needs to be discussed, as some couples prefer you to contact them directly.
  • Pre and post adoption contact should be discussed and agreed upon with the adoptive couple before birth of the child.
  • It is very important to provide as much medical information as you can to the adoptive couple for the welfare of your child.
  • You will be asked to sign a form drafted by the State of Kansas that requests specific medical information.
  • Unless it is an open adoption, the child does not have access to your name until the age of 18.
  • Upon the age of 18, the child can ask the court to release your name.
  • Your name will be kept confidential unless you consent to the release of this information.
